10 emotional goals you need to set in 2023 and how to reach them

2023 is just around the corner, and sadly, many of us haven't been able to reach our 2022 goals.

But instead of criticizing ourselves for not being self-disciplined and sticking to our healthy routine, let us congratulate ourselves for sustaining through difficult times.

I remember writing down my yearly goals on January 1, 2022, and I was so excited to meet them. One of them was writing a self-help book  which I accomplished within five months, and I am so proud of myself.

Other than this, I was able to complete a few more, though some are still pending. But instead of wasting time on criticism, let's concentrate on what lies in store for us in the future.

For each of us, the beginning of the year feels like setting new intentions, accomplishing some materialistic things, and earning more money.

But sadly, there are very few who focus on their well-being and set targets to improve their mental and emotional health.

As a preacher of self-love and mental health, I am here to make you aware of the importance of setting emotional goals and how you can easily achieve them.

Importance of setting emotional health goals

Setting emotional health goals can help you improve your life in a meaningful way while opening yourself up to new opportunities and life experiences.

Here are some benefits of setting emotional health goals:

  • More self-awareness- Setting objectives for your emotional wellness is a crucial step in becoming more self-aware. It can make you more aware of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, as well as patterns in your life, which is extremely useful in stressful situations or emergencies.
  • Improved relationships- When you have good emotional health, everything in your life—including your relationships—is good. Because when you value and take care of yourself, you won't let someone treat you disrespectfully.
  • More clarity- By better understanding yourself, you can see more clearly what you want out of life. You may also discover that setting goals for emotional health gives you a stronger sense of purpose and direction.

10 emotional goals that you must set in 2023 and how to achieve them

1. Make time to meditate- Meditation is not something that you have to do at a certain age or for a certain period of time. Your thoughts play a crucial role in developing your personality. Thoughts > feelings > behavior > action > personality > life experiences. To be mindful, you must spend at least 10 minutes doing nothing but being with yourself. If you find it difficult to sit with yourself at first, keep a diary and write your thoughts. This is yet another method for remaining mindful and relaxed.

2. Improve your sleeping habits- If you don't stick to a regular sleep schedule, you'll definitely feel less productive, less energetic, and more self-destructive the next day. To improve your sleep patterns, stop using your phone at least two hours before bedtime. You can also listen to solfeggio frequencies to get a better and peaceful sleep.

3. Pray more- If I ask you, when was the last time you sat by yourself and prayed to God? What would be your answer? The longer it takes you to respond to this question, the more obvious it is that you are not putting any effort into your spiritual and emotional selves. Praying and talking to God helps us feel more connected to our higher selves and creates abundance in our lives. Make it a point to pray every day by the year 2022. The following is an example of an excellent goal in this regard: "In 2023, I will pray for at least five minutes each day."

4. Control your reactions- This is another important goal you need to set for yourself if you want to improve your life in 2023. You'd have to agree that most of the time, we lose our minds due to impulsive reactions. When we calm down, we look back and say, "I shouldn't have reacted the way I did." But now the damage has been done, and you can do nothing about it. So instead of regretting and feeling guilty later, try to be aware of your emotions. If you are being triggered by something or someone, consider what is bothering you so much that it is bringing out your darker side.

5. Stay optimistic- If you are someone who constantly asks, "Why me?" when things do not go your way, it is time to work on your mental and emotional health. When something unexpectedly bad happens in your life, put everyone and everything else on hold and simply concentrate on looking after yourself. Just focus on making and treating yourself better. Take a walk outside, listen to your favorite music, or play some video games. In this way, you will get an immediate boost to continue moving forward.

6. Spend more time in nature- Spending time in nature reduces our stress levels, makes us happy, and improves our self-esteem. So, if you want to improve your emotional health in the coming year, set a goal to spend more time outside. In addition to your exercise, take a 10-minute stroll through a park or just unwind in your lawn. You'd be astonished at how much better you feel while surrounded by the natural world.

7. Let go of resentments- Do not squander your valuable time dwelling on what someone did to you. It's like consuming poison while hoping someone else perishes when you hold onto resentment. If you let it, the resentment and hatred you hold inside will eat away at your emotional stability. Whatever the other person did, it is not worth jeopardizing your emotional health by clinging to all that bitterness. Focus on the present, love yourself, practice forgiveness, and make your life more fulfilling and joyful in the upcoming years.

8. Practice self-love and acceptance- If you aren't even close to self-love, I recommend using more positive self-talk whenever you catch yourself thinking negatively about yourself. Even if it feels fake, you'll get into the habit of thinking more positively about yourself, and you'll begin to believe it. Make time for yourself. Don't be too hard on yourself. Stop criticizing yourself whenever you make a mistake. Be your own best friend.

9. Less expectations- Many of us unknowingly start expecting things from the people we love and care about. Because we believe that we will do certain things for them, we expect them to do the same. Remember that "expectation most often leads to disappointment." People should understand that no matter how much you expect from someone, that person cannot be forced to deliver. In 2023, make it a goal to stop assuming and expecting. If you want to do something for someone, do it without any expectations and accept others as they are.

10. Choose your relationships wisely- When you make your emotional health a priority, you do not accept any kind of toxicity or negativity in your life. In 2023, make it a goal to stop accepting shit from others and be with people who make you feel at home. Do not depend on anyone, but choose your people wisely. Invest in people who are there to listen to you and do not drag you into any kind of toxicity.

Final Words

Personal development and self-growth are the two things that you should never stop working on. While taking care of your body is important, your mental health holds equal weight when it comes to self-care.

As a result, having a positive relationship with your emotions will assist you in achieving your overall goal.
